The Chace question

I don’t like the cover shooted by Mario Testino. After the good cover photographed by Hedi Slimane, i found the newer VMan so plastic. Why Mario turns every model/boy/girl sometimes like a doll? I don’t like it. Perharps, i like the editorials inside with Garret Neff, the Calvin Klein body. I’m feeling a 90′s moment. You can check the cover here. At the moment, i prefer Vogue Hommes Internacional, with the weird change in the art direction, but, as always, so cool. Above, Ryan Snyder by Mario Testino. More photos after the jump.

Rio Summer is coming

All the rich-and-famous fashion personalities will come to Rio de Janeiro to spend wonderful days of swim/beach wear in front of the sea, in the begining of november. Valentino will come. Natalia Vodianova will come (just to see the shows in the front row, not catwalk). Alice Dellal will walk for the new 284 brand and the new dream team Barbara Berger, Bruna Ténorio, Emanuela de Paula, the hot Viviane Orth and the new platinum blonde Ana Claudia Michels too. So hot, btw. After (two weeks?), we have a speech time with Nicola Formichetti and Mariano Vivanco at Pense Moda, in São Paolo. Time to rethink concepts and learn more about the image making proccess. In the photo, Lara Stone winking in the cover of i-D. Will you attend all the events? Think.

Why is Katie Grand, the ultra-cool editor of Pop, leaving the title she founded to launch a new magazine for Condé Nast? Asks Alice Wignall

“Katie Grand is on the phone from Paris, where, as an in-demand stylist, she’s working at fashion week. “It can be a bit glamorous,” she concedes, “but by 3am it’s usually just quite a lot of work and eating sausage rolls and drinking coffee.” Things are a little more exciting away from the catwalk: Grand is shortly to leave her day job editing the ultra-cool fashion mag Pop for Bauer, and decamp to Condé Nast with her entire team to launch a new title.
Her new project? A twice-yearly, as-yet-unnamed style magazine that, according to the official announcement, is going to be “edgy”, “experimental” and “high-end”. Which doesn’t sound a million miles away from Pop, which Grand founded in 2000. Condé Nast was in fact initially keen to buy Pop lock, stock and barrel – but Bauer declined. “We have been considering having a magazine in this very edgy style sector for some time,” says Nicholas Coleridge, the managing director of Condé Nast in the UK. “We kept hearing that they [Bauer] weren’t very committed to Pop but eventually they decided it was no dice, they didn’t want to sell it. But by that time Katie had come into our lives. I guess we’ve been flirting, in a career sense.”
For her part, Grand says she was happy either way. “I kind of knew that Condé Nast had put in bids for Pop. I thought, if it happens, great. If not, it would also be great to do something new … Maybe it’s better just to do something that’s completely a fresh start.”
According to Bauer, the changing of the guard at Pop is just a regular bit of staff turnover. “We publish many magazines,” says David Davies, managing director of Bauer’s women’s magazines division, “editors do change and we’re used to that.” Except this is an editor who has invented and defined the title she works on, and who is taking her whole team with her. It’s hardly run-of-the-mill HR.

A new begining or the last goodbye?

We find the rumors exciting, but we think that Pop needs to be always on the newstands, every season. We think too that Love, the new publication of Katie Grand now at Conde Nast group, will be more artsy, edgy and ahead of Pop. In this new issue, that we don’t now if its the last issue, Dreww Barrymore (photographed by Alasdair McLellan) features in the cover with a rabbit. Serif typo all over the layout. Hum. Maybe it’s a little bit over. I prefer the handmade letters and words at the last issue with 6 covers, not 101 animals.

Some people dont liked it. Some people love it. I think it’s a serie with very purity. Without horny and pre-concept. It’s a freedom family withou clothes. Just it. Olivier Zahm is a man of art, no? We love Purple.

Electric Youth from Spain

A magazine from Spain, from the same authors of Fanzine 137. All the hot kids inside: Luke Worral, the new sensation Ash Stymest, cover of Vogue Hommes Japan and much more. It’s a must buy. The layout is fun, with non-serifed fonts, cool colors with references in classic layouts. But here, the classic turns fresh. All the photography of the issue is by Alasdair McLellan, the favourite photographer of the always iconic i-D. More photos after the jump, babies.
